Data corruption is the unintended transformation of a file or the loss of info which usually occurs during reading or writing. The reason may be hardware or software malfunction, and because of this, a file may become partially or fully corrupted, so it will no longer work properly because its bits will be scrambled or missing. An image file, for example, will no longer show a true image, but a random combination of colors, an archive will be impossible to unpack since its content will be unreadable, and so on. If such a problem occurs and it isn't recognized by the system or by an admin, the data will be corrupted silently and in case this happens on a disk drive that's part of a RAID array where the info is synced between various drives, the corrupted file will be replicated on all other drives and the damage will become long term. Many widespread file systems either do not offer real-time checks or do not have good ones which can detect a problem before the damage is done, so silent data corruption is a common problem on internet hosting servers where substantial amounts of data are kept.
No Data Corruption & Data Integrity in Shared Hosting
In case you host your Internet sites in a shared hosting
account from our firm, you don't need to worry about any of your data ever getting damaged. We can guarantee that due to the fact that our cloud hosting platform uses the cutting-edge ZFS file system. The aforementioned is the only file system that works with checksums, or unique digital fingerprints, for every single file. Any kind of info that you upload will be kept in a RAID i.e. simultaneously on many SSD drives. All of the file systems synchronize the files between the different drives using this kind of a setup, but there is no real warranty that a file won't get corrupted. This may occur during the writing process on each drive and afterwards a damaged copy can be copied on the rest of the drives. What is different on our platform is that ZFS examines the checksums of all files on all the drives instantly and if a corrupted file is located, it is replaced with a good copy with the correct checksum from some other drive. That way, your information will remain intact no matter what, even if a whole drive fails.
No Data Corruption & Data Integrity in Semi-dedicated Hosting
In case you buy one of our semi-dedicated hosting
plans, you will not have to be concerned about silent data corruption since we use ZFS - an advanced file system that keeps track of all files in real time. Each time you upload a file to your account, ZFS will assign a unique digital fingerprint to it - the so-called checksum. That file will be synced between several SSD drives for redundancy, so if one drive fails, the other ones will take control. ZFS compares the checksum of all the copies on the different drives and if it detects a damaged copy, it replaces it with a healthy one from a different drive. This happens immediately, so there will be no threat for any part of your content at any time. In comparison, all the other file systems carry out checks after a system breakdown, but since they do not use anything similar to the checksums which ZFS uses, they won't detect silently corrupted files, so a bad copy may be replicated on the other drives as well and you can lose crucial data. Since this is not the case with ZFS, we can warrant the integrity of each file you upload no matter what.
